Dr. Claudia Henschke gave an introductory presentation on the first day of the 1st Conference on Integrating Early Detection of Heart and Lung Disease through Low-Dose CT, opening the conference by highlighting the long history of lung cancer screening initiatives, starting in 1992. She emphasized the significant progress made, including the recruitment of 1,000 participants by 1998 and the publication of their findings in The Lancet in 1999. The International ILCAP has now screened over 102,000 participants worldwide, with a 20-year lung cancer-specific survival rate of 80%, and 95% for early-stage detection. The conference aims to further optimize screening and treatment to improve these outcomes.
